One Wage!!!!!!

From Guest To Michael Johnson, Yesterday at 22:06
I have a concern that has not been adressed, I see on posts to this fourm that we are looking for one wage for all areas and work. but this has not been the case, several employees working at several different labs are being classified as "pre apprentices" and are being paid below union scale while still performing jouneyman level inspections. Some of these union brothers and sisters are fully certed, and have experience to back them up. Now the Labs are telling us that we not only need to complete an apprenticship but need to aquire more certs, even above the group 1 and 2 level certs we already posses to finally make prevailing wage. I think that this should be addressed as the labs are using this loop hole to circumvent the negotiated wage. We will not be united as one while the Labs are able to use this to pay a lesser wage to one inspector for the same work. Thanks for your time.

You are correct
We call this issue "a level playing field" we are working on contract language to solve this problem. In fact we consider it the most important issue. If we do not have enforceable classifications and wage rates we do not have much of a contract! I thank you for your input, However I do not know who you are, I think it is best to log in and post your name, you are only telling the truth. Thank you! Mike Johnson

Here is another solution
Paying anyone pre-apprentice is ridiculous, If that person is experienced and certified that makes it even worse!!! We are working on language to define classifications and wage rates clearly. Another solution would be to present yourself to another test lab, there are companies who treat their inspectors fairly. You might be pleasently surprised!!!

LEVEL PLAYING FIELD......
In my opinion we as a membership really need to help create and ultimately establish more
descriptive job classifications with enforceable 'UNION' rate wage scale to be applied in order to
eliminate this kind of activity.....we need to more clearly outline this and push the union to audit
effectively!
I also feel that in an effort to get members to come forward with information such as this we
should further discuss with the union the extreme importance of SHOP STEWARDS at every
company....as I have been told that we do not have at this time. We need a way to
communicate and express these concerns with our union for timely action. When qualified,
certified inspectors are working for below contract wages and/or side agreements they hurt not
only themselves but everyone working under that contract. I understand the importance of
allowing owners to have freedom to run their companies how they choose......but we are the
union workers providing services utilizing our certified skills and valued experience, and as a
united group, under UNION CONTRACT AGREEMENT have the capability to ensure that the
minimum requirements of our contract are being met both by all parties.
I encourage any and all response to my opinions, please post or contact our union
representatives directly;

I agree with Mike Johnson CWI, ICC reinforced and postensioned all require a level of experience, I.E. If you have that cert you are qualified, albeit you may a box of rocks. Which is why at the bottom of ICC cert's it states that the building offical has that jidgement call.
One fricken wage!
On another note the union has filed for strike sanctions against smith-emery. They are not paying the 100% rate as of July 1st.

Good Point!!
The whole "PRE" anything does not exist in the union contract!! It is a head and wallet game the labs are playing! The highest priority in negotiations will be to have proper classifications, We will see soon enough how the employers respond to new language!!!
Yes the union has requested and received strike sanction!! Saction was authorized against NCTIA which includes Smith Emery. Good Post !!!!!!!!!

Re: One Wage!!!!!!
Agree 100%. Let's not allow ways to pay qualified brothers/sisters a lower rate and let's stop the non-union language and classifications... Defeats the purpose of being a union member and drags us all down. Stand up for yourself and we will all support you. Let's stop the fear.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH
I'll keep it clean... NO GPS, NO CHANGE IN OUR HEALTHCARE OR BENEFITS, 70% IS BULLSHIT. OUR CONTRACTS WITH RESPECT TO CELE SHOULD ALIGN AT LEAST FOR NOW THE EXPIRATION OF CONTRACTS, THUS BRINGING THE TWO PARTIES TOGETHER ...STRENGTH IN NUMBERS. WE ARE DUE OUR FIVE DOLLAR AN HOUR INCREASE PER OUR CONTRACT..NO IF'S ANDS OR BUTS...PERIOD.
I'M READY TO WALK OVER THIS AND I KNOW OF AT LEAST TWO OTHERS THAT ARE BEHIND ME. IF MICHEAL STRUNK CAN PULL A MAJORITY TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A POWERFUL STAND! SMITH-EMERY AND AIG ARE GEARING UP FOR HARDBALL. WE HAVE BEEN BEAT DOWN FOR TWO YEARS... ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Lower our union dues
So if they end up changing things around to favor the companies instead of us union members, Are they going to lower our dues? I think we pay to much now for the lack of representation we have. How much has it gone up in the last few years?

one wage
I'm sure everyone remembers that we tried to bring everyone up to a descent wage at the last contract. But a bunch of people signed a side letter agreement and worked continuously while some of the senior inspectors got laid off.How many people lost houses, cars or other things because of that. There needs to be a level playing field for senior inspectors also.
